Membra Jesu nostri patientis sanctissima, The Most Holy Limbs of our Suffering Jesus, has become one of the most famous pieces of church music through the years.
The Baroque composer Dieterich Buxtehude based these seven Passion cantatas on the mediaeval hymn cycle Salve Mundi Salutare. The hymns are seven contemplations of the body of Christ on the cross, from his feet to his face.
