BRYGGEN Bruges Strings
A shanty is a song sung by a group of sailors at work. The many variations of the couplets put singers and listeners into a trance. The leading British composer Thomas Adès took the shanty form as a starting point, and BRYGGEN Bruges Strings led by Jolente De Maeyer will play his work for the first time in Belgium. Orawa by the Polish composer Wojciech Kilar is incantatory, a work that grows slowly towards ecstasy. The evening will be completed by Arvo Pärt’s Fratres and Entr’acte by Caroline Shaw.
