Ensemble Gamut!

Ensemble Gamut! always finds surprising ways of presenting early music. In Flos, the production centres on endangered species of arctic flower. Vappu Rossi makes huge live drawings inspired by these flowers to music by Hildegard von Bingen and others. The act of drawing is combined with a musical soundscape of voice, harp, bells, Carolingian bowed lyres, mediaeval recorders and electronic soundscapes. Even the sound of the drawing process becomes music: sound artist Tuomas Norvio captures and manipulates it live, turning image and sound into a single, breathing work of art.
