Illuminans Tenebras
The abbess, visionary, poet and composer Hildegard von Bingen continues to inspire. In the project Illuminans Tenebras, Tristan Driessens aims to shed new light on her music. His ensemble Soolmaan does this by revisiting compositions from the Dendermonde Codex. Vielles become reed pipes; improvisations and new interludes connect age-old melodies. In its musical choices, the programme also asks a question that is as timeless as it is contemporary: what is the heartbeat that links Christian music and the Sufi traditions of the East?
