Students at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and residents
On Sunday 4 October, the festival will draw to a close in a special way with two free performances in the chapel of the Public Psychiatric Care Centre (OPZ) in Geel. At 3 pm and 5 pm, a participatory space for being will be created around the sound installation by festival composer Noah Senden.
Noah Senden studied composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp under Wim Henderickx, a mentor who had a major influence on both his musical development and his vision of what it means to be an artist. He also received tuition from Bram Van Camp and Mathias Coppens, amongst others. During his Erasmus placement at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in Tallinn, he immersed himself in the Baltic choral tradition, an experience that greatly enriched his perspective on sound, simplicity and the spiritual power of music.
In the chapel of OPZ Geel, Senden’s sound installation will engage in dialogue with composition students from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp and care service users, their loved ones, staff and local residents associated with OPZ Geel. Among those taking part are the members of the inclusive choir De Kolibries and several creative residents of PVT Salto. Together, they will create a unique musical space for encounter, centred on listening, connection and experience.
