Is the truth found in paradox? In Claudio Monteverdi’s song Si dolce è il tormento, the beloved demonstrates loyalty by suffering. Love as a moral test of strength belongs to the tradition of courtly love.
The song is the perfect piece for the renowned soprano Hana Blazikova, accompanied by Michel Angers on the lute and theorbo. Setar player Kiya Tabassian adds his own Persian perspective to the conversation. The programme also includes work by Giovanni Girolamo, Pietro Paolo Borrono and Johann Sebastian Bach.
