The Sacred Veil is a twelve-part work by the poet Charles Anthony Silvestri and composer Eric Whitacre. Silvestri’s wife, Julie, died of ovarian cancer in 2005 at the age of 36, leaving two young children behind. With texts by Silvestri, Whitacre and Julie herself, the intimate and poignant score tells the story of playful courtship and love followed by loss and the search for solace. Although the work is inspired by that exceptional, moving friendship, Julie is not named, and the work paints a profoundly human picture of something that comes to all of us sooner or later.
