During the pandemic, the leading Swiss orchestra Les Passions de l’Âme provided one of the most moving concerts at Musica Divina. This year they will perform in all their glory at the magnificent St Dymphna’s Church. The spotlight is on one of their woodwind players: the oboist Benoît Laurent, who is also a professor at Brussels Conservatory. No Baroque oboists can ignore Giuseppe Sammartini, but Benoît’s path led directly to him: he wrote his dissertation on the Italian composer. ‘In the Garden of the Oboes’ showcases the rich and diverse oeuvre of the two Sammartini brothers.
